Inflammation of the appendix, a finger-shaped pouch present at the lower right side of the abdomen. Starts with a dull pain in the middle or right side of the abdomen and moves down to the lower right abdomen.
Appendicitis is characterized by pain, vomiting, constipation (diarrhea may occur), fever and increase in urinary frequency.
Appendicitis is caused by blockage in the lining of the appendix by stool, tumors, or any foreign body. It can also be caused due to infection.
To rule out any abdomen related problems, with similar symptoms, certain tests are recommended.
Treatment usually requires surgery to remove the inflamed appendix.
Antibiotics: Used to clear infection.
Piperacillin . Ticarcillin . Ceftriaxone . Meropenem . Ciprofloxacin
Appendectomy: In most of the cases, removal of appendix through surgical procedure is advised to avoid life threatening complication.
